Sunday Sustenance

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I have been searching high and low for the best deals on Christmas gifts this year, but it seems every time I think I've found a nice gift at a good price, it doesn't end up working out. Well, it dawned on me that I had been trusting in my own skills as a "deal hunter" rather than trusting the Lord to provide. I had not one time asked Him to provide nice gifts that would fit into our budget. I confessed to Him for depending on myself rather than depending on Him, and the same day He unexpectedly provided 6 gifts for considerably less than what I had budgeted. For those of us who have trusted Christ to save us from our sins, we can and must trust Him with every other aspect of our lives. Just as we can do absolutely nothing to save ourselves, we can do nothing of ourselves in any other aspect of life. Our faith must rest entirely in Jesus Christ both for salvation and for daily living.

What has the Lord been teaching you? I'd love to hear from you either by a comment or email and have you share how the Lord has been working in your heart.

  1. This is something that I struggle with. I feel like I have to be in control. I know that He is able to provide more than I can ask or even think, if only I would rely on Him. It all comes with faith. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I also have a very hard time with this. I forget to ask God b/c I feel I can do it on my own. It is so simple, but so hard to give up control. I needed to hear this today! Thank you.

  4. Thank you so much for this reminder. I often do not want to "bother" the Lord with these seemingly minor matters. I forget that He has control over ALL matters and loves for us to depend upon Him. When I do remember to consult Him with these matters, He ALWAYS makes things very obvious for me! It's when I "let go and let God" that He's closest to me. You'd think I'd have learned that a long time ago after he gave me my very own "miracle baby" (just 1 lb. 2 oz.)! She spent almost 10 long months in the NICU until it finally dawned on me to just let Him have his will and that's when things started to turn around. I had to acknowledge that I had no control over the situation and I was at His mercy. You wouldn't think that after such a tough lesson, I'd so easily forget, but I do. Again, thanks for the reminder!

  5. I, too, struggle with 'needing' to have control over the finances and spending. Every time I take 'control' things always end up in a horrible mess. Just this past week, I was reminded again how NOT in control I am. Thanks for reminding me that God is ALWAYS in control no matter what I think and that He will ALWAYS do a better job than I ever could. Thanks, too, for reminding me that nothing I take to my Heavenly Father is a bother to Him.
    Blessings...

  6. thanks for sharing those verses with us. I am learning that I must do my best with what God has entrusted to me, but that He is in control of all things. I have been thinking of the first verses in Eph. that talk about the "riches of His inheritance to those who believe." I want to focus on eternal treasures and bringing Him glory.....and if He allows my printer to keep working so I can print coupons...we'll save $$ for His glory, not b/c of my control! Thanks!!! You're a blessing to many.

  7. I enjoyed reading this. It reminded when I was younger and my mom and I would pray before we went shopping for school clothes or a special occasion.
